I received a panicked text from one of my adult children that their medication was out of stock at the pharmacy. This was an important refill they needed right away and couldn’t wait. Luckily, I remembered a tip from a physician’s social media post I had just seen that made a big difference in how to handle this situation. Here’s what happened and how it reinforces the importance of physicians creating health education on social media.
A Panicked Text and a Fast Answer
The message was simple and urgent. They received a text that the pharmacy did not have the medication in stock, and my family member needed a plan to get it right away.
An Instagram post from Dr. Bayo came straight to mind. She had shared advice for this exact situation. Her guidance: ask the pharmacy whether a partial refill is available. A pharmacy can be short on the full supply and still have enough on hand to cover a partial fill.
I passed that along. They called the pharmacy directly and found that they had 30 days available, even though the 90 day supply was out. Crisis averted, and the whole thing wrapped up in seconds.
If I would not have seen Dr. Bayo’s reel, we would have started calling every pharmacy in the Midwest to track it down. One piece of advice from a physician saved me hours.
Physician Influencer Content Made a Difference
The American healthcare system is so challenging. Medication shortages are happening all the time and it can feel overwhelming as a patient. A clear, accurate tip from a physician who understands how pharmacies operate made this so much easier for us to deal with. That is the power of practical, credible health education showing up at the right time.
I’m grateful for Dr. Bayo and the many physicians who share accurate health education and real-world guidance for navigating the system on social media. Their content often reaches people at the exact moment they need help, in the places where people already spend their time.
Why This Is the Work We Do
This is just one small example that had an impact on my life. It also captures why I’ve spent the last 10+ years helping healthcare companies partner with trusted influencers. Helping create more accurate health education on social media really makes a difference for people who need to make decisions about their health.
